Dining
Dining at Westend Hotel Matheran
Westend Hotel Matheran restaurant has a poolside view and it serves both veg and non-veg meals.
The kitchen
Everything here is carried up the hill
Matheran doesn't have any type of vehicle; every vegetable, sack of rice, kitchen supplies, and even gas cylinders are carried by horses, hand-pulled on carts, or carried by someone on their back from Dasturi Naka.
As every ingredient takes effort, our menu is prepared in advance, and our kitchen is planned thoughtfully. No food is wasted; that's why we appreciate knowing special dietary needs such as Jain meals and child diet on the time of booking.
It doesn’t mean the food category is limited; we provide Indian, Chinese, and authentic Maharashtrian food in both veg and non-veg throughout all the day.

Dietary requirements
We always ask about your dietary preferences on the time of reservation as all the ingredients are brought up the hill in advance. So that no food is wasted.
Arranged on request
Dinners that are not in the dining hall
A day's notice is enough for all of these. Outdoor arrangements depend on weather.
Meal plan or pay per meal?
Room rates in Matheran are usually listed with meals included and we think it is a genuine option here because there are very few places to eat on the hill and walking down the hill for each and every meal makes it difficult for everyone.
The plans — EP, CP, MAP and AP — are explained in full on the tariff page, along with which meals each one covers.
Direct booking
Food requirement to tell us about?
Jain, no onion-garlic, a child's diet, an allergy, a cake — put it in the message box and the kitchen will plan for it.
Questions
About the food
Yes, Westend hotel matheran meals have both vegetarian and non vegetarian options in Indian, Chinese and Maharashtrian food options.
Yes, and so is no-onion-no-garlic cooking. Please tell us when you book rather than at dinner — Matheran is a car-free hill station and everything the kitchen uses is carried up, so ingredients are planned ahead rather than bought the same evening.
Yes. Plain dal, khichdi, curd rice, boiled eggs and similar can be prepared on request. Mention it when you book and the kitchen will keep what it needs aside.
Please call ahead before coming — the kitchen cooks to the number of guests in-house, so walk-ins depend on the day. Ring +91 87693 29321 and we will tell you straight away.
In most hill stations either works. In Matheran, meal-inclusive usually makes more sense, because eating options up the hill are limited and walking down to the market for every meal gets old quickly. The plans are explained on our tariff page.
Yes — a table set by the pool, a cake, or a campfire dinner can all be arranged. Tell us at least a day in advance so the kitchen and the team can prepare properly.
