What this place is
Westend Hotel sits on R.C. Church Road in Matheran, next to the police station, about 500 m from Charlotte Lake. Six room categories, from a compact deluxe for two up to a heritage family room that sleeps six, plus tented cottages beside the pool.

How we work
A car-free hill changes how a hotel runs
Most of what looks like unusual policy here is really just logistics.
Jain food, a child's diet, an allergy, a cake, a spa slot. Every ingredient in our kitchen was carried up the hill by horse or hand-cart. A day's notice is almost always enough; an hour's often is not.
Vehicles stop three kilometres short of the hotel. Porters at the parking is the single most useful thing we do for first-time visitors, and it only works if we know your arrival time.
If your offsite needs stable video calls, if you are booking the monsoon for poolside dinners, if six of you will struggle with one bathroom — we say so before you pay rather than after you arrive.
