Reviews are waiting on real data
This space is deliberately empty. Writing reviews for a hotel's own website is both dishonest and, if paired with rating markup, a fast route to a Google manual action that can remove the entire site from search.
To turn this on:
- Copy 9–12 genuine reviews from Google and TripAdvisor into
$REVIEWS, with the guest name and platform - Fill the real rating and review count for each platform in
$PLATFORMS - Set
$REVIEWS_LIVE = true - Only then set
$SHOW_AGGREGATE = true— this switches on rating markup, and Google requires the number to be both real and visible on the page
Until then the page still works: it sends people to the platforms, which is the honest version anyway.

A hotel picking which reviews to show on its own site tells you almost nothing. The platforms below show the one-star ones too, and that is the more useful read.

What comes up again and again
Both directions. If you are deciding whether to book, the second column is probably more useful than the first.
Being about 500 m from Charlotte Lake and under a kilometre from Echo Point. In a town with no vehicles this matters far more than guests expect before they arrive, and it is the single thing mentioned most often afterwards.
The three kilometres from Dasturi Naka that no vehicle can cover. First-time visitors are consistently caught out by it. No hotel in Matheran can change this — what we can do is send porters, if you tell us your arrival time.
Several properties in Matheran are vegetarian only, and guests routinely discover it after checking in. We serve both, and people mention it.
The other recurring complaint, and a fair one. Between June and September views can vanish into cloud for whole days, and outdoor arrangements do not run. It is the cheapest season for a reason.

A review on Google or TripAdvisor helps more than you would think — particularly for a property competing against copycat websites that use our name and photographs. Real reviews on real platforms are one of the few things those sites cannot fake.
And if something went wrong, please tell us on WhatsApp while you are still here rather than afterwards. We can fix a room, a meal or an arrangement on the day. We cannot fix any of it once you have gone home.

On Google, TripAdvisor and the major travel portals, where reviews are tied to verified stays and we cannot edit or remove them. We link to those platforms directly on this page rather than only showing you the ones we like.
Because a hotel choosing which reviews to display on its own website tells you very little. Independent platforms show you the complaints as well, and that is a more useful basis for a decision than a curated selection.
Consistently, the location — being about 500 m from Charlotte Lake matters more than people expect in a town with no vehicles. The pool and the fact that we serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food also come up regularly, since several properties in Matheran are vegetarian only.
The approach, usually — the three kilometres from Dasturi Naka that no vehicle can cover surprises first-time visitors. It is not something any hotel in Matheran can change, but we can send porters to meet you if you tell us your arrival time. Monsoon weather is the other recurring one.
