The property
A hill station hotel that still feels like the hills
Matheran sits at roughly 800 m in the Sahyadris, and it has kept one rule since the British laid the toy train line in 1907: no motor vehicles. That single rule is why the air here is different, and it is the reason people keep coming back.
Westend Hotel is built around that quiet. Our rooms are air-conditioned and have attached bathrooms, TV and a tea/coffee maker; several open onto a balcony looking over the garden or the pool. Outside the rooms there is an outdoor swimming pool, the Eternia Spa, a poolside restaurant, a conference room, and enough open ground for children to actually run around in.
Charlotte Lake is a five-minute walk. Echo Point is under a kilometre. The market and the toy train station are close enough that you can wander down in the evening and walk back without planning it.

Things to actually do
Matheran is a walking place, but there is enough on the property for the hours you are not out at a viewpoint. Horse riding and guided jungle treks can be arranged through the front desk. Campfire evenings run on request, weather permitting.
Indoors there is table tennis, badminton and carrom, and a play house for younger children. The pool is open through the year.

Matheran has surprisingly few hotels that serve non-vegetarian food. We are one of them. The kitchen runs Indian, Chinese and local Maharashtrian dishes, with a buffet at breakfast and dinner and an à la carte menu through the day.
Jain food, no-onion-no-garlic and specific dietary requests can all be handled — tell us on WhatsApp when you book rather than at check-in, and the kitchen will plan for it.
Candlelight dinners by the pool, anniversary cakes and campfire barbecues are arranged on request.

No. Matheran is Asia's only car-free hill station, so vehicles stop at Dasturi Naka. From there you can walk, take a horse, or take a hand-pulled rickshaw to the hotel. Our porters can meet you at Dasturi Naka to carry luggage — just tell us your arrival time on WhatsApp.
