A sensible half-day: leaves after breakfast, walk down to Charlotte Lake across the Pisarnath temple, visit Alexander Point in the hill station of Matheran, and finish your Echo Point before you are busy. That is located most near the Matheran hotel and come back for lunch from R.C.. Church Road. From the far side of town it is becoming longer in the morning.

500 m matters when there are no cars
In a town with vehicles, the distance between your hotel and the lake would be a detail. In Matheran, it is a walk you make two times, on a laterite path, possibly in the rain and with children.
Westened hotel is located on the R.C. Church Road, near the police station about 500 m from the Charlotte lake and under a kilometre from Echo Point. This reason our guests want to see the two or three times over a two night stay rather than once.

About Charlotte Lake
About 500 metres — a five to ten minute walk from our gate on the R.C. Church Road. It is the closest Western hotel in Matheran, so most of the guests arrive there in the evening without making a plan of it which is not true of hotels far away from town.
No. The Charlotte lake in matheran supplies drinking water to Matheran, swimming and bathing are not permitted. Lake is worth knowing before arriving with a towel. The rule catches people out fairly often.
Boating is not something you can count on here unlike at some other hill station in matheran lakes. The water levels go up and down a lot between the monsoon season and the dry months. So it is best to check with us about your travel dates for planning your trip, around boating.
The monsoon brings the lake to life, filling it completely and causing it to overflow over the spillway. Those weeks right after the rains are beautiful with the water full and the surroundings alive. By late summer, the water level drops a lot. There is a calmness in the air during those hours. Pisarnath Temple is nearby. Alexander Point and Echo Point hill station of matheran can both be reached by walking from there. Most visitors mix the lake with one or two of those places or take a separate trip for each.
Spot is a well-used spot and people walk through it until the evening. Practical concerns are ones. Paths are unlit in places where rocks near water are slippery, in the monsoon and monkeys are common. Carry a torch if heading back after dark.
