Most of the offsite venues have a common failure, the starting session runs good but after that your team starts to explore the city, gets busy on calls and the team starts to break apart,
This situation can not happen in Metharan because no motor vehicles are allowed here, and every car stops at Dasturi Naka, you walk or take a handcart. No one sneaks out in this condition.
The best thing about the Westend Hotel in Matheran is that there is a peaceful environment. As there are no motor vehicle so no noise anywhere. A session running in the open or in a room with windows open is complete different experience than anywhere near highways.

Westend Hotel Matheran has everything - rooms, conference rooms, pool, open ground. Nobody is travelling between the hotel and the venue.
In the evenings, if the weather is pleasant leads to better conversation than afternoon sessions.
Neral is 11.5 km away and Mumbai is 100 km, makling travel easy.

Capacity depends on layout. A theatre style setup holds the most; U shaped or boardroom setup holds less but is better for discussions.

Read this before booking
Connectivity, honestly
This is the one thing that decides whether Matheran is right for your offsite, and we would rather you know now than at nine on the first morning.
- Wi-Fi is available across the property, but this is a hill station. Connectivity drops in bad weather, and heavy monsoon rain affects it noticeably.
- Do not plan a day of video calls around it. If your agenda depends on stable bandwidth for external calls, Matheran is the wrong venue and we will tell you that rather than take the booking.
- For in-person sessions it is rarely a problem. Strategy days, planning, training and team-building work fine — and the enforced disconnection is usually the point of coming here.
- Tell us your agenda when you enquire. We will give you a straight answer on whether it will hold up.
Planning
Getting a team of thirty up a hill with no roads
This is the part offsite organisers underestimate. It is entirely manageable — it just has to be planned rather than improvised.
Everyone arrives at Dasturi Naka
Whether the team comes by bus, by car or by train to Neral, all vehicles stop at the same point. Build a buffer into the schedule — a group of thirty does not arrive as neatly as a group of four.
Tell us the arrival window
Give us a time and headcount and we arrange porters to meet the group for luggage. For a corporate group this is the single most useful thing we do, and it needs advance notice — not a call from the parking.
The last stretch
On foot, by horse or by hand-pulled rickshaw. Most teams walk it and it becomes part of the trip. Flag anyone with limited mobility in advance and we will arrange a rickshaw.
Do not schedule a session for the first hour
People arrive warmer and more tired than they expect. Tea first, session after. Every offsite that ignores this regrets it.

Yes, there is a conference room on the property along with rooms across categories, so a team can meet and stay in the same place. Send your team size and dates and we will confirm the seating arrangement that works.
It depends entirely on the seating layout — theatre style holds considerably more than a U-shape or boardroom setup. Tell us your headcount and the kind of sessions you are running, and we will tell you which layout fits and whether the room suits your group at all.
It has one advantage no city venue can match: no motor vehicles are permitted anywhere on the hill, so once your team is up here, nobody leaves at lunch. There is also no traffic noise at all. The trade-off is connectivity, which is patchy in the hills — worth planning around rather than discovering on the day.
We would not plan on it. Wi-Fi is available across the property, but Matheran sits in the hills and connectivity drops in bad weather. For an offsite built around in-person sessions this is rarely a problem, and often the point. For a day of client calls, it is the wrong venue and we would rather say so.
Yes, on a fixed group menu rather than à la carte — it is faster for the team and lets the kitchen plan properly. Tea, coffee and a working lunch can be scheduled around your sessions. Vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain requirements are all handled if we know in advance.
